Crew Movie Review: Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan & Kriti Sanon Steal Our Hearts in a Heist Gifting Us One of The Best Trios

So, this weekend the big Bollywood release was “Crew”, starring Tabu, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kriti Sanon in the lead. Directed by Rajesh Krishnan, who is known for his TVF web-series “Tripling”, and the 2020 comedy-thriller “Lootcase”. The film also stars Diljit Dosanjh and Kapil Sharma in brief roles.

The film aims at telling a story about three diligent friends – Geeta Sethi (Tabu), Jasmine Kohli (Kareena Kapoor Khan) & Divya Rana (Kriti Sanon), working as cabin crew for Kohinoor Airlines. Their peaceful lives take a turn when they are unexpectedly are caught in a difficult situation of gold smuggling, orchestrated by someone with ulterior motives. Now, they are trapped in a never-ending struggle, desperately trying to break free.

Crew appears to be a comedy from its trailer and hence I entered the theatre with the expectation of watching a comedy. But what starts as a comedy soon turns into a heist film. The credit for this twist in the tale completely goes to the writers Nidhi Mehra and Mehul Suri.

There are LOL moments in between but I would be very wrong if I label the movie as a comedy which it clearly is not. It is a heist drama in the garb of a comedy.

Fewer subplots could serve to make the film a little crisper. The Robin Hood part was absolutely not required.

Also, a character conveniently switching sides at the last moment came as somewhat absurd to me.

My money was on Tabu after watching the trailer & she rules the pack. She has looked hot and delivered her lines and emotions perfectly. She ups her game & delivers a very good performance. She’s just effortless & gets a major chunk of screen presence in the movie.

Kareena Kapoor Khan is undoubtedly the HOTTEST of them all. She’s glowing throughout her performance and is at ease. She maintains the grace and sexiness of her character with utmost elegance.

Kriti Sanon has her moments but they’re very few. She gets the traits of her character very well. The trio shares an enjoyable onscreen chemistry.

Diljit Dosanjh & Kapil Sharma are good in their guest appearances.

Rajesh Sharma, Saswata Chatterjee, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Trupti Khamkar and Charu Shankar provide good support.

What I absolutely loved about the film is that there are very few moments when you get a chance to feel bored. The first half of the film is really very interesting as the non-linear style of storytelling really grips the viewer. The second half is where the logic takes a back seat however no matter how stupid the proceedings are it is still entertaining.

All said and done, Crew is an entertaining film and falls under the one-time-watch category, which you can enjoy with your family and even if you’re watching alone. If you’re taking out those 2 hours make sure you grab a tub of popcorn. Kareena Kapoor Khan has looked like a million dollars!

3 stars for this one!

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari Movie Review: A Laugh Riot That Pays Homage To Family Entertainers Of The 90s!

When an individual is obsessed with films and can visibly see the upward trajectory of any actor, especially when it has humble beginnings you get a sense of pride for identifying the potential of the talent. Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari presents Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh and Fatima Sana Shaikh in a commercial comedy. All three actors that have transitioned from playing supporting roles and have proven themselves that they assimilate and belong in the big leagues only on the basis of their talent.

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari focusses on Suraj Dhillon (Diljit Dosanjh) whose search for a ‘sundar susheel ladki’ for marriage is sabotaged by Madhu Mangal Rane (Manoj Bajpayee), a wedding detective, who is in the occupation of exposing fraud guys for saving girls from marrying a wrong person. Somehow Suraj starts dating Mangal’s sister Tulsi (Fatima Sana Shaikh). But, is his love true or it’s just a form of revenge? Well, you have to watch the film for that.

Here’s me telling you the good and bad aspects of the film so that you guys can ultimately decide whether this film is worth your time on Zee Plex or not?

Writers Shokhi Banerjee and Rohan Shankar pen an absolutely fresh story however, their screenplay is slightly routine but has many interesting moments and situations. The film is entertaining and enjoyable even with the predictable twists.

The first half is a laugh riot, all the jokes and humor are infused properly and the dialogues are very well written. The characters are full of wit and maintain a good tone thoroughly.

The film loses its momentum in between as the second half takes a generic dramatic turn with couple of unnecessary subplots which eventually stretches the runtime. The film picks up well during the climax.

The film is backed by some amazing star cast.

Manoj Baypayee is the show stealer of the film and shows his versatility in various looks of the film. He has done an excellent job as always.

Diljit Dosanjh with his usual comic timing is awesome and delivers a hilarious act.

Fatima Sana Shaikh looks beautiful in saree look and acts pretty well.

The supporting characters are also quirky, well casted and fleshed out.

Annu Kapoor leaves his magic again with epic comic timing.

Manoj Pahwa, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Seema Pahwa, Neha Pendse and other actors have also done their job perfectly.

The casting is the biggest strength of the film as every actor suits their given role perfectly.

The direction by Abhishek Sharma is decent and his narrative makes the film exciting.

The music of the film by Javed-Mohsin is forgettable, only Basanti manages to make its mark. The background score by Kingshuk Chakravarty is decent.

The cinematography of the film by Anshuman Mahaley is excellent and captures the vintage timeline of Bombay quite well.

The editing by Rameshwar S. Bhagat is average and should have been sharper as the film could have been 20 minutes shorter in runtime easily.

Nevertheless, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari is a good decent timepass, ideal and paisa vasool family entertainer which leaves you with a smile on your face. The comic punches, dialogues, casting and performances are the strong points of the film.

3/5 Stars!
